This page helps you create an email that goes straight to customers’ inboxes. You build it inside a campaign, design it in a drag-and-drop editor and publish it when it’s ready.
An email always belongs to a campaign. Open the campaign first, or create one.

Add an email to your campaign

You can add an email in the campaign’s List view or on its orchestration canvas. Either way, the Create Email form opens. Where you add it, and whether it’s connected to another block, decides how customers get it. See Choose who gets it.
  1. Go to Campaigns and open the campaign the email belongs to, or create a new one.
  2. Select Add activities, or Add activity if the campaign already has some.
  3. On the Select an activity page, point at the Email tile and select From scratch. To start from a saved email instead, select From template. Reuse with templates explains how.
The form has three tabs: Activity details, Activity content and Segmentation.

Fill in Activity details

On Activity details, name the email and set what customers see in their inbox. To personalise the subject or the preheader, type {{ and pick a tag from the list. The list always has date and time tags, such as CurrentDate. When an Enrich block is connected straight to the email on the canvas, the list also has the attributes it adds, such as a first name. The Create Email form on Activity details, with three tabs across the top: Activity details, Activity content and Segmentation. Name reads Coffee week launch email. In Subject, the text Coffee week is here is followed by two curly brackets, and the tag list is open under the field with Now, CurrentDate, CurrentTime, CurrentYear, CurrentMonth, CurrentDay and CurrentDayOfWeek. The list covers the Preheader field. Below it are Sender name Coffee week, Sender email news@example.com, and Start date and End date filled in from the campaign. Activity details, with the tag list open under Subject

Design the email in Activity content

Activity content opens the email editor. You build the email by dragging pieces onto the page on the left.
  • Content holds the building blocks, such as Title, Paragraph, Image, Button, Social and HTML.
  • Rows holds layouts. A row sets the columns that your content sits in.
  • Settings sets the look of the whole email, such as its width and background colour.
When you edit text in the editor, you can add the same tags as in the subject. Add the Unsubscribe Link to every email. You can pick it as the link for text or a button. Each customer gets their own link. To preview the email, select the eye at the top left of the editor. The button beside it opens the editor full screen. The page holds the title Your next reward is waiting!, a greeting, and three content blocks: Earn bonus points this week, Complete the weekly challenge with a View Challenge button, and Play & Win Instantly with a prize wheel. At the top left of the editor are the desktop and mobile view buttons, and below them the eye button for the preview and the full-screen button. On the right, the Content tab is open next to Rows and Settings, with blocks such as Title, Paragraph, List, Image, Button, Table, Divider, Spacer, Social, HTML, Video and Icons. Choose who gets it

On Segmentation, the option you get depends on whether the email is connected to another block on the canvas. To send a Triggered email to an audience instead, remove its connection on the canvas while the email is a draft. It then switches to Audience. All members is always greyed out. An email can’t go to every customer at once. Customers with no email address are skipped.

Pick the audience

With Audience selected, choose one of these.
  • Select Audience sends to the audience as it is when the email goes out. Choose Select from list to pick one or more audiences. Choose Create new audience to upload a new one.
  • Select Snapshots sends to a snapshot of an audience. A snapshot is a copy of the audience at one moment, so its customers don’t change after that.
The list only shows audiences whose Destination(s) include email, or are set with Select all. If you create a new audience here, Email is already set under Destination(s). Upload a CSV file with one customer ID per line. The file can also have a header row with a MemberId or CustomerId column.
Sending doesn’t check consent for you. The email goes to everyone in the audience who has an email address. So build the audience from a segment that only includes customers who agreed to get email.
Sending to a large list for the first time, or from a new sender address? Read Deliverability first. The Segmentation tab of the Create Email form. All members is greyed out and can't be picked. Audience is selected, and under it Select Audience is selected, with the Select from list and Create new audience buttons. Select Snapshots sits below them. Under the choices, a note says email activities need an audience filtered by consent. Segmentation, where All members can’t be picked

Save or publish

  • Save keeps the email as a draft. It only needs a Name, and any other field you’ve filled in has to be valid.
  • Publish stays greyed out until every required field on all three tabs is filled in and every value is valid. For an Audience email, that includes at least one audience. A tab you’ve opened shows a check mark once everything on it is right. The portal asks you to confirm, and says whether the email becomes active now or on its start date.
An Audience email is sent once, at its start date. If the start date has already passed when you publish, it goes out straight away. A Triggered email is sent each time customers reach it on the canvas. See Recipients. Lifecycle covers what you can still change once it’s published. To reuse this email’s layout, open the arrow beside Save after the first save and choose Save as template. You can then start new emails from it with From template.

Troubleshooting

Check Sender email. Its domain has to be one Lobyco has set up for your programme. If you aren’t sure which domains you can use, contact Lobyco support with the campaign’s ID and the sender address you tried.
The subject or the preheader uses a tag the email can’t fill in. This happens when the Enrich block that adds it is no longer connected straight to the email, or no longer adds that attribute. Reconnect the block, or remove the tag. On the canvas, the same problem in the content shows as a warning on the Email block.
The email isn’t connected to another block, so it’s an Audience email, and no audience is picked yet. Open the email and pick one on Segmentation.
Check the audience’s Destination(s). They have to include email, or be set with Select all. If they are and you still can’t find it, contact Lobyco support with the audience’s name and the campaign’s ID.
If none of these answers your question, contact Lobyco support. Send them the campaign’s name and the email’s ID, from the top of Activity details.
  • Recipients explains when each kind of email is sent.
  • Lifecycle covers what you can change once an email is published.
  • Deliverability explains what decides whether emails reach the inbox, and how to warm up a new sending domain.
  • Warm up email sending shows how to send to a large list a little more each day.
  • Block reference describes the Enrich block and the other blocks an email can connect to.
