# Set the base bonus customers earn

> Set the bonus percentage customers earn on their purchases, for all chains or chain by chain.

This page helps you set the [base earn](/business-documentation/activities/bonuses), the standard bonus customers earn as a percentage of what they pay. You can give chosen chains a different percentage.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Saving changes what customers earn from then on, including in [Multiplier Bonuses](/business-documentation/activities/bonuses/bonus-types#multiplier-bonus) that are already running.

## Open Base bonus earn %

1. In the left panel of Lobyco Nexus, open **Global Settings**. It sits in the **Promotion Platform** group.
2. Select the **Base bonus earn %** tab.

The tab shows the default percentage and any custom rules saved so far.

Not every admin user can change the percentages. Some admin users can open the tab but only read it. For them, the fields are greyed out, and there is no **Add rule** button, no **Save** button and no delete button on the rules.

## Set the default percentage

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Default base bonus earn** | The percentage of what customers pay that they earn as bonus, in every chain that has no rule of its own. |

Type a number from 0 to 100. The field is required and shows a % sign. A value with more than two decimals is rounded to two.

## Add a rule for chosen chains

A rule gives one or more chains a percentage of their own. Chains without a rule keep the default.

1. Select **Add rule**. A new rule opens under the **Custom bonus earn rules** heading. It starts with no chains and a **Bonus earn** of 0.
2. In **Chain(s)**, select **Add chain/s**, then pick one or more chains. You can search the list. Each chain shows its name and its ID.
3. In **Bonus earn**, type the percentage for those chains.

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Chain(s)** | The chains this rule covers. Required. |
| **Bonus earn** | The percentage of what customers pay that they earn as bonus, in those chains. A number from 0 to 100, required. |

Repeat the steps to add more rules. **Save** stays greyed out while a rule has no chain or an empty percentage.

Put each chain in one rule only. The **Chain(s)** list still offers a chain that's already in another rule. If a chain is in two rules, customers can earn both percentages added together.

## Delete a rule

1. Select the bin icon at the bottom of the rule.
2. A window asks **Are you sure you want to delete this rule?** and says **This action cannot be undone.** Select **Delete**. To keep the rule, select **Cancel**.

The rule leaves the screen straight away. It is only removed for customers when you save. After you save, you have to add the rule again if you want it back.

## Save the changes

1. Select **Save** at the bottom right.
2. A window opens with the title **The update will apply to all selected activities and campaigns**. Select **Continue**. To go back, select **Cancel**.

The same window opens when you save on **Product exclusions**. This tab has nothing to select, so the update applies to every purchase in the chains it covers. That includes running Multiplier Bonuses, which multiply base earn.

The tab then shows the percentages as saved. After you save, the update usually takes 5 to 15 minutes to take effect. This tab doesn't show when it has.

To check that it worked, open a customer in [Members](/business-documentation/self-service/find-a-customer).

1. On **Receipts**, find a purchase made at least 15 minutes after you saved, in a chain whose percentage you changed. Note its receipt ID.
2. Go to **Credit statements** and set the **Type** filter to **MemberCredit**.
3. Find the row with that **Receipt ID**. It's the purchase's base earn. Its **Amount** is the new percentage of what the customer paid. While a Multiplier Bonus runs, it shows the multiplied amount instead.

If the amount is lower than you expect, see **Troubleshooting** at the bottom of this page, under *Why is the base earn lower than I expect?*

If you leave the tab with changes you haven't saved, a **Confirm navigation** window says **You have unsaved changes.** Select **Stay** to go back and save, or **Discard changes** to leave without saving.

## Troubleshooting

> **Why can't I select Save?**
>
> **Save** stays greyed out while **Default base bonus earn** is empty, or while a rule has no chain or no percentage. It also stays greyed out if a number is outside 0 to 100. If you can't see **Save** at all, your admin user can only read this tab. Ask the person who manages access to Nexus in your organisation to let you change it.

> **Why is the base earn lower than I expect?**
>
> Lobyco may have set up, for your organisation, product categories that don't earn base earn, a maximum amount of base earn a customer can get each month, and groups of customers who earn none. These limits don't show on this tab. Also check that the purchase was made at least 15 minutes after you saved.
>
> If it still doesn't add up, send these details to Lobyco support:
>
> * The customer's member ID
> * The receipt ID
> * The percentage you expected

> **Why can't I see the Base bonus earn % tab?**
>
> Your admin user doesn't have access to it. Ask the person who manages access to Nexus in your organisation.
