# Banners

> Build a banner inside a campaign, choose where it shows in the app and who sees it, then publish it.

This page helps you create a banner. A banner is an image customers see in the app, and it can take them somewhere when they tap it.

> [!NOTE]
>
> A banner always belongs to a campaign. Open the campaign first, or [create one](/business-documentation/campaigns/create-a-campaign).

## Add a banner to your campaign

You can add a banner in the campaign's **List** view or on its [orchestration canvas](/business-documentation/campaigns/orchestration-canvas). Either way, the **Create banner** form opens.

Add it on the canvas when a flow decides who sees the banner. [Recipients](/business-documentation/communication/triggering) explains how a flow sends a banner.

**In the list**

1. Go to **Campaigns** and open the campaign the banner belongs to, or [create a new one](/business-documentation/campaigns/create-a-campaign).
2. Select **Add activities**, or **Add activity** if the campaign already has some.
3. On the **Select an activity** page, point at the **Banner** tile and select **From scratch**. To start from a saved banner instead, select **From template**. [Reuse with templates](/business-documentation/campaigns/reuse-with-templates) explains how.

**On the canvas**

1. Go to **Campaigns** and open the campaign the banner belongs to, or [create a new one](/business-documentation/campaigns/create-a-campaign).
2. Select **Orchestration** at the top.
3. In the **Block library**, drag a **Banner** block from the **Activity** group onto the canvas.
4. Double-click the block. **Create Activity** opens.
5. Select **From Scratch**. To start from a saved banner instead, select **From Template**. [Reuse with templates](/business-documentation/campaigns/reuse-with-templates) explains how.

Once you've saved the form, connect the block to its flow and select **Save** at the top right of the canvas. Connect it before you publish the banner, because you can't connect or disconnect it after that. When another block connects into the banner, the flow decides who gets it, and its **Segmentation** changes. [What changes in the form](/business-documentation/communication/triggering#what-changes-in-the-form) explains how.

## Name the banner

The **Campaign details** panel names the banner.

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Banner campaign name** | Names the banner in the portal. Customers don't see it. Required. Up to 100 characters. |
| **Analytics identifier** | Identifies the banner in your analytics. Required. Up to 50 characters. |

Once you save the banner, the panel also shows its ID, with a button to copy it.

## Choose where it shows

In the **Placement** panel, pick an option under **Where should this banner be displayed?**. The placement decides which fields come next and what shape the image has.

| Placement | Where customers see it | Fields it adds | Image shape |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Offer universe** | The app's offer universe | **Display banner on** | 3:1 |
| **Home screen - partner** | The app's home screen, as a partner banner | **Display priority**, **Choose chain(s)** | 2:1 |
| **Home screen - hero banner** | The app's home screen, as the hero banner | **Display priority**, **Choose chain(s)** | 2:1 |
| **Receipts** | The app's receipts list | **Display priority** | 2:1 |

The fields a placement adds sit in the next panel, **Display on:** followed by the placement's name. If you change the placement later, the portal clears **Display priority** and the chains you picked.

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Display priority** | Sets how high the banner ranks in the app, from 1 to 7. 1 is the highest. Required. |
| **Choose chain(s)** | Shows the banner only to customers with one of the chains you pick. Left at **All**, it shows for every chain. Optional. |
| **Display banner on** | Sets which chains the banner shows on. Required. |

The app shows only the top banners in each placement. Banners with the same priority show the newest first. **Receipts** and **Offer universe** show one banner at a time. How many the home screen shows is set for your app by Lobyco.

## Add the image

**Add banner image** takes a PNG or JPG file of up to 2 MB. It's required. **Preview** shows the image once it's uploaded.

Use the shape your placement needs: 3:1 for **Offer universe**, and 2:1 for every other placement. An image in the wrong shape shows an error under the field. You can't save or publish the banner until you fix it. To fix it, select **Crop image**. It crops the image to the placement's shape, and the error goes away.

## Choose what a tap does

Under **Banner call-to-action**, choose what happens when a customer taps the banner.

| Option | What happens |
| - | - |
| **No navigation** | Nothing. This is the default. |
| **App deep-link** | The app opens another place in the app. Pick it under **Choose from list**. [Deeplinks](/business-documentation/communication/deeplinks) explains the options. |
| **External URL** | A website opens. Enter its address, starting with `http://` or `https://`. Turn on **Use web wrapper** to open it inside the app, with the app's header and menu. |

## Choose who sees it

In the **Segmentation** panel, choose who can see the banner.

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **By stores** | Shows the banner only for the stores you pick. Once you pick stores, they replace the chains you chose. Left at **All**, it isn't limited to any store. Optional. |
| **All customers** | Every customer can see the banner. This is the default. |
| **Audience** | Only customers in the audiences you pick can see it. Under **Select Audience**, use **Select from list** to pick a saved audience, or **Create new audience** to build one. To use a fixed list of an audience's customers instead, choose **Select Snapshots**. Pick the audience with **Select from list**, then pick at least one of its snapshots. |

On the canvas, a block connected before the banner decides who sees it instead. **Segmentation** then shows **Custom segment**, and the form adds **Validity period of banner**. Connecting or disconnecting that block clears any audience and validity period you set. [Trigger it from the canvas](/business-documentation/communication/triggering#trigger-it-from-the-canvas) explains how both work.

## Set the dates

In the **Schedule** panel, set when the banner shows. If the campaign has dates, both start as the campaign's dates.

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Start date** | Sets when the banner starts showing. Required. It can't be before the campaign starts or after it ends. |
| **End date** | Sets when the banner stops showing. Required. It has to be after the start date, and it can't be after the campaign ends. |

A date outside these limits shows an error under the field.

## Save or publish

* **Save** keeps the banner as a draft. It needs a name and a placement.
* **Publish** asks you to confirm first. It stays greyed out until every required field is filled in.

If the start date is in the future, the banner is scheduled for that date. Otherwise it's published straight away. On the canvas, also read [Publish and run it](/business-documentation/campaigns/orchestration-canvas#publish-and-run-it) before you publish.

The banner then shows in the campaign's **List** view with its status. [Lifecycle](/business-documentation/communication/lifecycle) explains each status and what you can still change.

## Troubleshooting

> **Why is Save greyed out?**
>
> **Save** needs a **Banner campaign name** and a placement. It also stays greyed out while a field holds a value the form doesn't accept, such as a website address that doesn't start with `http://` or `https://`.

> **Why is Publish greyed out?**
>
> Every required field has to be filled in first. Check the fields marked with a star, including the ones your placement adds and the image. If you chose **App deep-link** or **External URL**, fill in where the tap goes. If you chose **Audience**, pick at least one audience. It also stays greyed out while a field shows an error, such as an image in the wrong shape.

If none of these answers your question, contact Lobyco support. Send them the campaign's name and the banner's ID, from the top of **Campaign details**.
