# Edit or reuse an offer

> What can still be changed once an offer is active, and how to use one offer as the starting point for the next.

An active offer can still be edited, but some changes don't reach coupons that already exist — which is a common reason a customer's discount behaves unexpectedly.

## What resets when you change it

<Warning>
  Changing **Type** resets all rules you have added. Changing **Benefit type** resets the offer types of all rules. The portal asks before doing either — *"Changing offer type will reset rules"* and *"Changing benefit type will reset offer types of all rules"* — but there is no undo afterwards.
</Warning>

## What can't be changed once the offer is active

| Field                           | Why                                                                                          |
| ------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Discount type** | Fixed once the offer is active. Settle the discount model before it goes live. |
| **Redemption limit** | Can be edited, but the change does not take effect on coupons already activated or redeemed. |
| **Start date** and **End date** | Same — coupons already issued keep the validity they were given. |

This is the single most useful thing to know when a coupon misbehaves: an offer edited after a customer received their coupon leaves that coupon running on the old values. See [Why isn't a customer's coupon working?](/business-documentation/activities/offers/why-isnt-a-customers-coupon-working).

## Save as template

An offer can be flagged as a template and used as the starting point for new offers.

**Save as template** sits in the form's footer, and only appears once the offer has been saved — on a draft you are still filling in, there is nothing to flag yet. The campaign has to be saved too. Once flagged, the button reads **Remove from templates**.

The flag has no effect on the offer itself, and can be switched on and off at any time — including after the offer has expired. A template keeps all of the original offer's properties **except** its start and end dates.

To build from one, add the **Offer** block to a campaign as usual and choose **From Template** in the **Create Activity** dialog instead of **From Scratch**.

  **Why this shot:** The flag does nothing visible on the offer itself — its effect only shows up somewhere else entirely.
