# Draw lottery winners

> Draw, check and approve the winners of a lottery game once it has ended.

This page helps you draw the winners of a lottery game after it ends, check them and approve them. A lottery game doesn't give out prizes while customers play. Winners only get their rewards once you approve them.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The **Lottery** tab only shows on a game with **Enable lottery draw (not recommended for luck-based games)** ticked, once its end date has passed. You tick it when you [create the game](/business-documentation/activities/games/create-a-game). Only a published game can be drawn, so publish the game before it ends.

## Draw the winners

1. Open the game from its campaign and select **Lottery**, beside **Details** and **Statistics**. The tab shows how many customers played. There's no deadline for the draw.
2. Select **Draw winners**.
3. In **Winner to draw**, enter how many winners you want, as a whole number of 1 or more.
4. Select **Draw**.

The winners are picked at random, and the **Winners** list opens.

### Who can win

Each time a customer plays the game is one attempt. Each attempt a customer finished with a win is one entry in the draw. Attempts that ended in a loss, or that the customer didn't finish, aren't entries.

In a lottery game, every finished attempt is a win unless the gameplay decides the customer lost, for example on a wrong quiz answer. A [luck game](/business-documentation/activities/games/types-of-games#luck-games) never decides that, so everyone who finishes a luck game gets an entry.

A customer with more entries has more chances, but can only be drawn once. If fewer customers have an entry than you asked for, you get fewer winners. The number on the tab counts everyone who played, not entries. If nobody has an entry, nobody is drawn, and the tab stays as it was.

### Which prize each winner gets

Each winner gets one of the game's rewards, starting with the reward that has the fewest left. For example, with 5 concert tickets and 100 T-shirts, 5 winners get a ticket and the rest get a T-shirt. You can't choose which winner gets which prize. If you draw fewer winners than there are rewards, the reward with the most items left may not be used up. To give out every reward, draw at least as many winners as there are rewards left.

You can't draw more winners than there are rewards left. If you try, the draw fails with an error and no winners are drawn. Try again with fewer winners.

A game with no rewards can still be drawn. Its winners then get no reward.

## Check the winners

The **Winners** tab lists everyone who was drawn.

| Column | What it shows |
| - | - |
| **Member id** | The customer who won. |
| **Win date** | When the customer finished the winning attempt that was drawn. |
| **Draw date** | When this winner was drawn. |
| **Reward title** and **Reward id** | The prize this winner gets. Empty when the game has no rewards. |

To find one customer, use **Search for member ID**.

The Winners tab is selected, next to Removed players. A Search for member ID field sits on the left, and Export, Re-draw all and Approve winners on the right, all active. The table has the columns Member id, Win date, Draw date, Reward title and Reward id, and ten rows of test members. Two won the custom reward custom1, with Reward id 93, and three won the bonus reward bonus1, with Reward id 92. The other five won a third reward, Reward id 34, whose title is blurred. Each row has a ⋯ menu at the end, and the paginator reads 1 — 10 of 11.](https://mintcdn.com/lobyco-4c9fb3ad/rG971_5ZfS49bcjM/images/games-03-winners-tab.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=rG971_5ZfS49bcjM\&q=85\&s=e2bafbb309188bbc8724cf4d754ff97d)

## Replace a winner who can't take part

Remove a winner who isn't allowed to win, such as an employee the lottery's rules exclude.

1. Open the **⋯** menu on the winner's row and select **Remove & replace member**.
2. Enter the reason in **Specify reason**. It's kept with the lottery as the record of why you removed the winner, so write one you can explain later.
3. Select **Draw new winner**.

A new winner is drawn at random from the customers with an entry who haven't been drawn yet. They take over the removed winner's place and prize.

If there's nobody left to draw, you see **Unable to replace the member**. Select **OK**. The winner is still removed, and their place stays empty.

The removed customer moves to the **Removed players** tab, with your reason under **Comment**. They can't be drawn again in this game, not even with **Re-draw all**.

## Re-draw, if you need to

**Re-draw all** runs the whole draw again, for example with a different number of winners.

1. Select **Re-draw all**.
2. In **Winner to draw**, enter how many winners you want.
3. Select **Re-draw**.

The new draw replaces the whole list. Customers from the old list can be drawn again, but customers you removed stay out.

## Approve the winners

> [!WARNING]
>
> Approving is final. You can't re-draw or replace anyone afterwards, so check the winners first.

1. Select **Approve winners**.
2. Select **Continue** to confirm.

Coupon and bonus rewards then go to the winners' accounts. Lobyco Nexus shows **Your draw has been approved and saved**. **Re-draw all** and **Approve winners** are then greyed out, and the **⋯** menu has gone from the rows. That's how you know the draw is approved.

Nexus doesn't deliver custom rewards, and it doesn't contact the winners of custom rewards. That's up to you. **Export** downloads the list of winners as a CSV file, before or after approval. It holds each winner's member ID and reward, and no names or addresses. You can use it to reward winners in another system. To deliver a custom reward, look up each winner's name and address in **[Find a customer](/business-documentation/self-service/find-a-customer#check-their-details-on-overview)**.

## Troubleshooting

> **Why is Draw winners greyed out?**
>
> Nobody played the game. The tab then says 0 users participated.

> **Why does the draw fail with an error?**
>
> Check these two things:
>
> * **You asked for more winners than there are rewards left.** Try again with fewer winners.
> * **The game is a draft.** Only a published game can be drawn, and a draft can't be published once its end date has passed. Contact Lobyco support.
