# Bonus types

> The five bonus types, what each one gives the customer, the fields it adds, and how bonuses of the same type combine.

The bonus type decides how the extra bonus is worked out. It also decides which fields the **Activity behaviour** tab shows. You pick it in **Select bonus type**, on the **Activity details** tab of the bonus form in Lobyco Nexus.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Switching to **Redemption Bonus** clears the dates, chains, stores and sponsor on **Activity details**.

## At a glance

| Bonus type | What the customer gets | Pick it to |
| - | - | - |
| [Product Bonus](#product-bonus) | Extra bonus on the products in your file, as a percentage of the price or a fixed amount | Push particular products |
| [Basket Bonus](#basket-bonus) | Extra bonus on the whole basket, with or without a minimum basket | Get customers to spend more per visit |
| [Local Bonus](#local-bonus) | A percentage of what they pay, on every product or only the ones you choose | Give a percentage back on everyday purchases, with or without an end date |
| [Multiplier Bonus](#multiplier-bonus) | Their base earn, multiplied between 2 and 10 times | Run a double-bonus week, for example |
| [Redemption Bonus](#redemption-bonus) | A percentage of the bonus balance they already have, added on one date | Encourage customers to spend their balance |

## Product Bonus

A Product Bonus gives extra bonus on the products you list. For each product, you set either a percentage of its price or a fixed amount.

On **Activity behaviour**, tick **With bonus percentage**, **With fixed bonus**, or both. Each one opens an upload field for its own file.

Each file is a .csv file with no header row. Put one product on each line: the product's EAN or UPC, a semicolon, then its bonus value. Use a dot for decimals.

* In the **With bonus percentage** file, the value is a percentage from 0 to 100. `5701234567890;10` gives 10% of the product's price as bonus.
* In the **With fixed bonus** file, the value is an amount. `5701234567890;2.50` gives 2.50 of bonus for the product.

List each product only once, and never in both files.

A product only ever gets one Product Bonus. If a product has a Product Bonus for its store and another for its chain, the customer gets the store one.

Nexus won't save or publish a Product Bonus that overlaps one that's already published. Two bonuses overlap when they give a different bonus on the same product, in the same chain or store, at the same time. Drafts don't count, so two drafts can overlap until you publish one of them.

For example, you upload a percentage file with a new coffee at 10%, and run it for two weeks in one chain. A customer who buys the coffee there for 40.00 earns 4.00 of extra bonus.

## Basket Bonus

A Basket Bonus gives extra bonus on the whole basket.

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Bonus Percentage** or **Fixed Bonus** | Sets whether the customer gets a percentage of the basket or a fixed amount per purchase. |
| **Percentage amount** or **Fixed amount** | Sets the percentage or the amount. |
| **Minimum basket amount** | Optional. The basket has to reach this amount to earn the bonus. |
| **Product list** | Sets which products count toward the basket: **All products**, **Exclude selected products** or **Exclude selected categories**. The two exclude options each open an upload field for a .csv file with no header row. Put one product EAN or UPC, or one category ID, on each line. |

![The Activity behaviour tab of a Basket Bonus. Activity details shows a tick, and Activity behaviour is open with a red number. Select week days has Everyday ticked and Monday to Sunday unticked. Under Specify the hour rules, From and To both show 00:00. Redemption start date and Redemption expire date are empty, with the hints Redemption is available from the selected date and Redemption will expire on the selected date. Bonus Percentage is selected instead of Fixed Bonus, Percentage amount is 5 and Minimum basket amount is 50. Under Product list, Exclude selected products is selected instead of All products or Exclude selected categories, and an upload area below it reads Drop file here to upload or select file, with Single file upload. Allowed file type is .csv under it. At the bottom are Cancel, Save, and Publish, which is greyed out.](https://mintcdn.com/lobyco-4c9fb3ad/rG971_5ZfS49bcjM/images/bonuses-04-basket-bonus-fields.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=rG971_5ZfS49bcjM\&q=85\&s=0bc75778f6cfe8e1f436c8526a2b05db)

*The Basket Bonus fields, with Exclude selected products chosen*

The basket is worked out on what the customer paid for the products that count, after discounts. Several basket bonuses can apply to the same purchase, and each one adds its own bonus.

For example, you set 5% with a minimum basket of 50.00. A customer pays 80.00, after discounts, and earns 4.00 of extra bonus. A customer who pays 45.00 earns nothing from this bonus.

## Local Bonus

A Local Bonus gives a percentage of what the customer pays, product by product. It's the only type you can run with **No end date**, on **Activity details**.

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Bonus Percentage** or **Custom Setup** | Sets how the bonus is worked out. Most bonuses use **Bonus Percentage**. |
| **Percentage amount** | Sets the percentage of each product's price given as bonus. Shows with **Bonus Percentage** only. |
| **Product list** | Sets which products earn the bonus: **All products**, **Include selected products**, **Exclude selected products** or **Exclude selected categories**. All but **All products** open an upload field for a .csv file with no header row. Put one product EAN or UPC, or one category ID, on each line. |

**Custom Setup** gives the customer bonus worth the difference when they pay more for a product than its price in a reference store. It only works once Lobyco has set up a reference store for your organisation.

Several local bonuses can apply to the same product, and each one adds its own bonus.

For example, you run a 2% Local Bonus with no end date in one chain, excluding tobacco. A customer who pays 100.00 there, 20.00 of it on tobacco, earns 1.60 of extra bonus.

## Multiplier Bonus

A Multiplier Bonus multiplies the customer's base earn while it runs.

On **Activity behaviour**, pick a **Multiplier** from **2x** to **10x**.

The multiplied rate replaces the base earn. It isn't added on top. Products that don't earn base earn don't earn the multiplier either. It's worked out on what the customer paid, after discounts.

When more than one Multiplier Bonus applies to a purchase, the customer gets the highest multiplier. They don't add up.

For example, your base earn is 1%. You run a **2x** Multiplier Bonus on Saturdays in October. A customer who pays 60.00 on a Saturday earns 1.20 instead of 0.60.

## Redemption Bonus

A Redemption Bonus adds a percentage of the bonus balance each customer already has, on one date. It isn't tied to purchases, so it has no chains, stores, week days or hours.

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Redemption start date** | Required. The day the extra bonus is added. It can't be in the past. |
| **Redemption expire date** | Required. The day the extra bonus expires. It can't be before the start date. |
| **Redemption bonus** | Sets the percentage of the customer's balance to add: **10%**, **15%**, **50%**, **75%** or **100%**. |

The extra bonus is added at the end of the redemption start date, based on the balance the customer has then. Any of the extra bonus they haven't spent by the end of the redemption expire date expires.

For example, you set **10%**, starting on 8 March and expiring on 10 March. A customer with a balance of 150.00 gets 15.00 extra at the end of 8 March. They have until the end of 10 March to spend it.

## Fields shared across bonus types

Every type except **Redemption Bonus** also has **Chain(s)** or **Store(s)**, **Select week days**, the **From** / **To** hours, and an optional **Redemption start date** and **Redemption expire date**. Those two dates set when customers can start spending the bonus they earn, and when it expires. Every type has **Segmentation**. [Create a bonus](/business-documentation/activities/bonuses/create-a-bonus) explains each of these fields. On a **Redemption Bonus**, the two redemption dates are required, and they work as [Redemption Bonus](#redemption-bonus) describes.
